Engineering for all

children assembling test circuits

Children assemble and test circuits that power glowing "fishing lures" in an interactive, maker-style exhibit at the New York Hall of Science. The exhibit, MakeScape, weaves basic electrical engineering concepts into a virtual fishing game. Researchers believe early exposure to engineering concepts could encourage more young people to pursue STEM careers.

A student shows off his latest project, an energy harvester created in a local makerspace.

Yitzhak "Isaac" Gebru shows off a wearable invention that harvests energy from the temperature difference between his body and ice-cold water bottles. Gebru, a bioengineering student at the University of Louisville, made the energy harvester as part of the NSF-funded Makerspace Co-op.
