NSF 12-571: PFI: Accelerating Innovation Research (PFI:AIR) Webinar

The presentation from the webinar that took place on July 25, 2012 concerning PFI: Accelerating Innovation Research (PFI:AIR) can now be found at the following location:
2012 PFI:AIR Webinar Slides
The aim of the webinar was to outline the key requirements of the two choices available within the PFI: AIR solicitation - Technology Translation and Research Alliance.
What distinguishes one choice from the other is not the subject matter, but the participants, i.e., the persons or groups involved. Both of these choices are designed to accelerate innovation that results in the creation of new wealth and the building of strong local, regional, and national economies.
The PFI: AIR Technology Translation choice is designed to support innovative ideas in the translation of fundamental science and engineering discoveries into market-valued solutions. The outcomes of this choice will be more research discoveries on the path to becoming new technologies, and the engagement of faculty and students in entrepreneurial/innovative thinking.
The PFI: AIR Research Alliance choice fosters connections between an existing NSF innovation research alliance and other partner entities that have as their complementary focus spurring the development of discoveries into innovative technologies through collaboration. The solicitation requires the commitment of third-party investment. The partnership between the NSF-funded academic entity and the third-party investor will create an academic-based innovation ecosystem for potential investors to participate in the development of new products, processes, and systems having potentially high commercial impact.
