A revised version of the NSF Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide (PAPPG) (NSF 15-1), is effective for proposals submitted, or due, on or after December 26, 2014. The PAPPG is consistent with, and, implements the new Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards (Uniform Guidance) (2 CFR 200). Please be advised that the guidelines contained in NSF 15-1 apply to proposals submitted in response to this funding opportunity.

The Chemistry of Life Processes (CLP) Program supports investigations at the interface of Chemistry and Biology in which the primary knowledge contributions and innovations are in the chemistry aspects of the project; for example, in the study of molecular structure and reaction mechanism of biologically important systems.  The research supported by CLP addresses the fundamental chemistry involved in the function of biomolecules and that of molecules used in probing biological systems. Projects typically employ experimental and/or theoretical approaches to study the chemistry of proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates or lipids.  The scope of the research and the methods used to conduct the research are intrinsically interdisciplinary.

Proposals that predominantly address biological problems are more appropriate for the Division of Molecular and Cellular Biosciences (MCB) at NSF.  Proposals that address biomedical problems are more appropriate for the National Institutes of Health or other health-directed funding agencies.
