NIH supports research on Arctic-related health issues through grants and contracts to non-Federal scientists and through projects carried out by scientists within NIH laboratories and clinics. As the designated focal point for Arctic issues at the NIH, the Fogarty International Center addresses global health challenges through innovative and collaborative research and training programs and advances the NIH mission through international partnerships. FIC helps forge bilateral and multilateral ties between and among governments, institutions, and scientists working on circumpolar issues.
4/24/2007 IPY provides an opportunity to focus on the human health issues of northern communities. The Arctic Human Health Initiative will advance and expand the joint research agenda of the Arctic Council and the International Union for Circumpolar Health. The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health are partners in the initiative. More
