A researcher's tent near the terminus of Canada Glacier at Lake Hoare in the McMurdo Dry Valleys, southern Victoria Land, Antarctica. Scientists may spend weeks or months living in tents like this while conducting research.

The United States maintains three research stations on Antarctica. The National Science Foundation operates them all.
