The image above depicts the ATLAS Barrel Toroid Magnet at CERN, a system that is so enormous that a human is dwarfed at its center. Several of the renowned scientists speaking as part of the NSF distinguished lecture series are speaking about research now underway using that instrument, including the search for the Higgs boson and the evaluation of theories on supersymmetry.
