San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland is one of the top areas for R&D performance in the United States.

U.S. business R&D is highly concentrated by state and metropolitan region. San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland, Boston-Worcester-Providence, and Los Angeles-Long Beach are among the most commonly reported combined statistical areas for companies to have their primary R&D location.
