Toolik Field Station (Image 2)
Toolik Field Station (pictured) is located on the eastern shore of Toolik Lake in the northern foothills of the Brooks Range on the North Slope of Alaska.

The station is operated and managed by the Institute of Arctic Biology at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, with cooperative agreement support from the Division of Polar Programs at the National Science Foundation (grant PLR 04-55541).
Much of what is known about terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems of the Arctic has emerged from long-term research at Toolik Field Station. Ongoing projects address the effects of climate change on the region, feedbacks to global climate change through gas and hydrological fluxes, and adaptations of plant and animals to the Arctic.
