 News From the Field Food Packaging that Provides Visibility Can Reduce Shelf Life

Transparent food packaging is popular with consumers, but exposure to light can cause nutritional and sensory damage to the food. This is one of the conclusions of a paper presented at the 234th American Chemical Society national meeting in Boston. The paper represents work being done in the lab of Susan E. Duncan, professor of food science and technology at Virginia Tech.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency that supports fundamental research and education across all fields of science and engineering.
