Arizona Middle School Students Blend Aesthetics and Technology to Create Art Installations

In an innovative after-school program led by researchers at Arizona State University, middle school children in Mesa Public Schools unleashed their creative expression using found objects, lego bricks, light, touch, and sound sensors and a programmable unit known as the Playful Invention Company (PICO) Cricket. The project is funded through the National Science Foundation's Information Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers (ITEST) program. Full Story

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency that supports fundamental research and education across all fields of science and engineering. In fiscal year (FY) 2012, its budget was $7.0 billion. NSF funds reach all 50 states through grants to nearly 2,000 colleges, universities and other institutions.
