Research Provides New Leads in the Case Against Drug-resistant Biofilms

Films of bacteria that form around foreign materials in the body can be very difficult to defeat with drugs, but research led by Brown University biologists has identified a couple of proteins that play a key role in building these "biofilms." The pair could prove to be a very important target for developing new antibiotics to fight infections. Full Story

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency that supports fundamental research and education across all fields of science and engineering. In fiscal year (FY) 2012, its budget was $7.0 billion. NSF funds reach all 50 states through grants to nearly 2,000 colleges, universities and other institutions.
