Iowa State Chemist Designs New Polymer Structures for Use as 'Plastic Electronics'

Malika Jeffries-EL, an Iowa State University assistant professor of chemistry, is designing new organic polymer structures that conduct electricity and could be useful in solar cells, light-emitting diodes and thin-film transistors. She and her research group are doing fundamental studies on the relationship between the polymer structures and their electronic, physical and optical properties. Full Story

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency that supports fundamental research and education across all fields of science and engineering. In fiscal year (FY) 2012, its budget was $7.0 billion. NSF funds reach all 50 states through grants to nearly 2,000 colleges, universities and other institutions.
