A Tiltable Head Could Improve the Ability of Undulating Robots to Navigate Disaster Debris

Researchers at Georgia Tech have built a robot that can penetrate and "swim" through granular material. The researchers show that by varying the shape of the robot's head or by tilting it up or down, they can control the robot's vertical movement in complex environments. Machines able to navigate through complex dirt and rubble environments could help rescuers after natural disasters like earthquakes and landslides. Full Story
