 News From the Field Pacific Tsunami Creates Icebergs in Antarctica

Scientists were able to observe for the first time the power of an earthquake and tsunami to break off large icebergs a hemisphere away. The scientists observed directly the calving of two moderate-sized icebergs from the Sulzberger Ice Shelf in Antarctica following the March 2011 tsunami that originated with an earthquake off the coast of Japan.
