UMass Amherst Physicists' Work Is Critical to Higgs Boson Search

The University of Massachusetts Amherst physicists use ATLAS, one of two general purpose detectors at the Large Hadron Collider deep under Switzerland and France, to make significant contributions to the project in muon identification and reconstruction. They have written large parts of the code now used to reconstruct the trajectories of muons detected in the ATLAS Muon Spectrometer.
