Harvard University-led researchers have put forth a new model of the cytoplasm as a gel, not a liquid, and demonstrated that adenosine triphosphate-driven processes are indirectly responsible for transport within the cell. A measurement of the spectrum of forces exerted on the cytoplasm at any given time can provide a snapshot of the metabolic state of the cell.Full Story
