Media Advisory 10-016 New Data on U.S. Industry's Global R&D: An NSF Webcast

National Science Foundation releases first data from new Business Research & Development and Innovation survey
May 20, 2010
The first data from a new industry survey that informs policymakers and will help business leaders better compete in the global economy will be released by the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Division of Science Resources Statistics on May 26. NSF invites news media to get an early, embargoed look at the data and to participate in a live, 10 a.m. ET webcast with NSF Director Arden L. Bement and U.S. Census Bureau Deputy Director Thomas L. Mesenbourg. Both leaders were integral to development of the new survey. Developed jointly by the NSF and the Census Bureau, the new survey greatly expands knowledge about U.S. industry's domestic and global R&D activities. Data from this first ever Business R&D and Innovation Survey has been anticipated since 2004, when a National Academies' committee recommended significantly redesigning NSF's previous industry R&D data collection instrument. To review an advance copy of the data in NSF's Infobrief on the United States' 2008 worldwide R&D business enterprise, please e-mail webcast@nsf.gov or contact Bobbie Mixon, (703) 292-8485 or Lisa-Joy Zgorski, (703) 292-8311. The webcast and Infobrief are both embargoed until 1 p.m. ET on May 26. | Who: | Journalists | | When: | May 26, 2010, 10 a.m | | Where: | Visit http://www.science360.gov/live and/or call 800-779-6165 to access the webcast. | | How: | Journalists interested in participating must e-mail webcast@nsf.gov to obtain the necessary passwords for participation via phone or web. |
