In this audio file, officials from NSF and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation discuss a new award program called BREAD--Basic Research to Enable Agricultural Development. NSF and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will each provide $24 million over five years to support research that addresses drought, pests, disease and other serious problems facing small farmers and their families in developing countries.
