Caption: Two types of cholera are recorded as effecting different age groups. (Type 01 and Type 0139)
Type 01 attacks more intensively in older adults.
Type 0136 attacks more intensively in children.
Since 1992, a new serogroup, 0139 Bengalógenetically distinct from 01--has caused explosive outbreaks in the Bay of Bengal region. We can see by this graph of cholera cases in Bangladesh that serogroups 01 and 0139 affect people of different ages differently.
