National Science Board to Meet October 2-3, 2007, in Arlington, VA

Policy to emerge to improve STEM education

September 26, 2007

The National Science Board (Board) will hold the fifth of its six annual meetings related to national science and engineering policy issues and oversight of the National Science Foundation (NSF) on October 2-3, 2007.

Open session highlights will include:

• Tuesday, October 2, 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. - Discussion and possible approval of the draft task force report on international science and engineering partnerships.
• Tuesday, October 2, 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. - Discussion of the Board's Action Plan for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education in the meeting of the Committee on Education and Human Resources. Discussion and possible approval for recommendation to the full Board of the Engineering Education Workshop report, Moving Forward to Improve Engineering Education.
• Tuesday, October 2, 4:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. - Discussion and possible approval for release of the Board's National Action Plan for STEM Education in the Board's Plenary Open Session.
• Wednesday, October 3, 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. - Discussion of future plans for a proposed Task Force on Sustainable Energy.
• Wednesday, October 3, 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. - Discussion of Cost-Sharing.
