TRANSPORTATION

Walking, riding the bus, or taking the Metro are easy ways to get around D.C. Here is a great MAP of Downtown D.C. You can click on points to the left of the map to show different information, such as where metro stations are located.
In Washington the subway system is called the Metro. It is clean, safe, efficient, and economical. The Metro Website contains a lot of helpful information including a trip planner. Don't let the little cards you have to buy confuse you. You pay by the distance and time of day you travel. There is a chart near the gates that lists the prices for all possible trips. Each person needs his/her own farecard or Smartrip card to ride Metrorail. Farecards cannot be shared with another person. A farecard holds between $1.35 and $45. Fare cards are available at fare vending machines in Metrorail stations, or you may want to purchase a $20 card to begin with or a Smartrip card which you can add money continually.
