Advisory
Committee for International Science and Engineering - Charter

The Advisory Committee
for International Science and Engineering was established
on May 23, 2005. The first meeting of this advisory body
was June 16-17, 2005.
I. SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES: To provide advice, recommendations,
and oversight concerning support for research, education and related
activities involving
the U.S. science and engineering working within a global context
as well as strategic efforts to promote a more effective NSF role
in international science and engineering.
II. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Review and advise on the impact of research and education programs
supported by the Office of International Science and Engineering
(OISE).
Advise OISE on program management, overall program balance, and
other aspects of program performance.
Advise OISE on its stewardship of NSF’s international leadership
in science and engineering and of NSF’s partnership with
other countries and other agencies.
Advise on NSF-wide strategic goals and initiatives in the international
science and engineering research and education arena.
Advise on the impact of NSF and/or USG polices on the OISE community.
III. DURATION AND MEMBERSHIP
A. Duration: It is expected that the Committee will continue indefinitely
with renewals of the charter every two years as required under
FACA.
B. Membership: The standing membership of the full committee consists
of about 15 persons.
Members are selected to be representative of the scientific areas
and types of institutions encompassed by OISE activities. Every
effort is made to achieve a balanced membership with representation
including underrepresented groups and different geographic regions.
