The commission was established under legislation passed by the 105th Congress [P.L. 105-255], in response to a 1996 NSF report on women, minorities, and persons with disabilities in science and engineering. The commission meeting, which begins at 8:30 a.m., will include remarks by NSF Director Dr. Rita Colwell; Assistant Commerce Secretary-Designate Kelly Carnes; NIH Deputy Director Dr. Ruth Kirschstein; Dr. Anita Borg, President and Founding Director of the Institute for Women and Technology; and Drs.
