DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: As Science Assistant the incumbent reports to the Section Head for special projects and works closely with Program Officers in a developmental capacity for the assigned cluster or program. Developmental assignments include writing reports, monitoring the budget, liaison with other NSF programs, coordinating aspects of cross-directorate proposals, and exchanging information with the research community. · Provides scientific assistance to the Section Head and Program Officers in all phases of the proposal review process. · Generates relevant scientific and/or administrative data from Foundation-wide databases that can be used in preparing analytical and interpretative reports and guides. This includes writing programs using query language, the development and use of other applicable software. Reports include one time requests and recurring reports. Assists in tabulating and analyzing data for program annual reports. · Assists Division FastLane users in answering technical questions regarding all aspects of the FastLane system. · Edits panel summaries for recommended actions to provide feedback to principal investigators. · Performs library research for the program and technical guidance for computer programs. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Applicants must have a Baccalaureate degree in Earth Science or Geology or a related science. Some administrative, managerial or professional experience related to the position is desirable. QUALITY RANKING FACTORS: 1. Knowledge of the principles, concepts and methodologies in the field of Earth Sciences or Geology and/or related sciences.
