| Abstract: |
Answering the question of relevance is the grand challenge facing the human sciences. We offer the following suggestions for future directions for the Directorate for Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences at the National Science Foundation:
" Treat accountability broadly construed as a topic of scientific research.
" Support research in the human sciences that is primarily oriented toward relevance and timeliness rather than methodological rigor.
" Promote the development of a new community of practice in the philosophy of science policy to complement the science of science policy.
" Support research into the nature of interdisciplinarity.
" Highlight SBEs status as the broader impacts directorate within the Foundation.
