Biography:

Dr. Jackson received his B.A. in Geology from the University of New Mexico, and a M.Sc. (Geological Sciences) and Ph.D. (Geophysics) from the University of Colorado, Boulder.  His expertise lies at the intersection of geodesy, seismology, and Quaternary geology.  Prior to arriving at NSF in 2015, Dr. Jackson’s held positions in private industry and consulting and had oversight of large facilities and logistics that served the research community.  He also developed instruments for geological research.   At NSF, he has overseen the Antarctic Instrumentation and Research Facilities program and the Antarctic Earth Sciences Program and has graciously served as Acting Section Head for Antarctic Sciences, twice in the past 18 months.  Drawing upon his expertise with the private sector, Dr. Jackson has ably represented the Office of Polar Programs in a suite of cross-directorate activities, such as MRI-1, TIP-POSE, NSF-Engines, and Convergence Accelerator Working Groups.
