FSS Data Entry Program Instructions

Hardware Requirements

This program requires at least 490K of RAM, 8M memory, and approximately 2M of hard disk space.

NOTE: You should NOT run Windows while working with FSS!

The FSS PC survey disk program also requires expanded memory. The program can detect whether or not your machine is using expanded memory or not; if not, it will attempt to copy the required files from your hard drive onto the floppy disk and ask you to reboot the machine with the PC survey disk in drive A:. This will not hinder or affect your machine in any way!

Installation Procedures

This software must be installed onto your hard drive (drive C:) before using. Follow these step-by-step installation instructions (type what is shown in bold italics, then press the key:

  6. Check your machine to see if it has the required expanded memory.     C:\FSS95>chkmem

  7. If your machine has expanded memory, the FSS program will automatically be started when you first install the program.    (The FSS program will start.)

To begin the FSS program after using it for the first time, repeat steps 1 and 3 above, then begin the FSS program.    C:\FSS95>fss

  8. If your machine does not have expanded memory, you will see a message that states files are being copied for you. These files will be copied onto drive a: of your machine.

    1. If the disk provided to you by QRC is not in drive a:, you should insert a blank disk into this drive. (insert blank disk into drive A:, if no disk is there)
    2. After all files have been copied, you will be directed to re-boot (turn off-then on) your machine. (turn off your machine, wait approximately 1 minute, then turn your machine back on OR press at the same time)
    3. Once the machine has been re-booted, you will be on drive a:. Go to drive c:. A:>c:
    4. Go to the C:\FSS95 subdirectory. C:>cd fss95
    5. Start the FSS program. C:\FSS95>fss

NOTE: Everytime you want to use the FSS program, you must re-boot your machine with the disk used in drive A: as mentioned in step 8.a. above. To return your machine to the way you normally use it, remove the disk from drive a: and re-boot your machine.
