FSS Data Entry Program Instructions

Installation Procedures


This software must be installed onto your hard drive (drive C:) before using. Follow these step-by-step installation instructions (type what is shown in bold italics, then press the key:

  1. From DOS, go to the root directory:    C:>cd \

  2. Create a subdirectory for the program:    C:>md fss95

  3. Go to the subdirectory you just created:    C:>cd fss95

  4. Insert the data entry program disk into your A: (or B:) drive.

  5. Start the installation program — the installation program will display the names of the files it is installing on your screen; when it is finished, you will be returned to the C:\FSS95> prompt.   C:\FSS95> a:install (or b:install)

  6. Check your machine to see if it has the required expanded memory.     C:\FSS95>chkmem

  7. If your machine has expanded memory, the FSS program will automatically be started when you first install the program.    (The FSS program will start.)

    To begin the FSS program after using it for the first time, repeat steps 1 and 3 above, then begin the FSS program.    C:\FSS95>fss

  8. If your machine does not have expanded memory, you will see a message that states files are being copied for you. These files will be copied onto drive a: of your machine.

    1. If the disk provided to you by QRC is not in drive a:, you should insert a blank disk into this drive. (insert blank disk into drive A:, if no disk is there)
    2. After all files have been copied, you will be directed to re-boot (turn off-then on) your machine. (turn off your machine, wait approximately 1 minute, then turn your machine back on OR press at the same time)
    3. Once the machine has been re-booted, you will be on drive a:. Go to drive c:. A:>c:
    4. Go to the C:\FSS95 subdirectory. C:>cd fss95
    5. Start the FSS program. C:\FSS95>fss

NOTE: Everytime you want to use the FSS program, you must re-boot your machine with the disk used in drive A: as mentioned in step 8.a. above. To return your machine to the way you normally use it, remove the disk from drive a: and re-boot your machine.
