Survey Coverage
Data in the fiscal year (FY) 1993 survey were collected from 681 institutions of
higher education in the United States and outlying areas. These institutions have
doctoral programs in science and
engineering, are historically black
colleges or universities that expend any amount of separately budgeted R&D in science and
engineering, and/or are other institutions that expend at least $50,000 in
separately budgeted R&D in science and engineering. Survey responses were
received from almost 97 percent of these institutions.
