How do I ...

Download data?

  • When exploring one indicator at a time, click the Download data link at the bottom of each graphic or table. To obtain the complete series of data available for that indicator.
  • You may obtain a complete set of tables with all of the data available in the tool on the download page.

Print?

  • In the Table, Chart, and Quartile Map views, click the Print link at the bottom of each graphic to open the print window.
  • You may also print from the Browser. Under File, go to Print.
  • In the Across all states view, click on the [Note/Download] link.
  • In the Across all years view, click inside a chart to enlarge it.

Find the data sources or notes?

  • In the Table, Chart, and Quartile Map views, scroll to the bottom of the table or graphic.
  • In the Across all states view, click the [Note/Download] at the bottom of the graphic.
  • In the Across all years view, below the map, click inside a chart to enlarge it.

Read more about the indicators?

  • On the Data Tool Menu bar, go to S&E Indicators Home. This will take you to the Science and Engineering Indicators home page. For more information on state indicators, click on Chapter 8. State Indicators. You may view or download the entire chapter which provides descriptions of all state indicators.

Reconcile the titles in the graphics with the titles of the indicators?

  • Due to space constraints in the graphics presentations, many of the titles have been abbreviated. Click here to view a crosswalk between the full indicator titles and the abbreviated titles used in the graphics.

Use the State Data Tool Wizard?

  • Click the State Data Tool Wizard button to get started. You will be able to create your own group of indicators for comparison and view them either across all states or across all years.
    • In the Across all states view, click [add chart] and select an indicator by year of your choice. You may add up to six indicators. Click [sort] to sort by a specific indicator.
    • In the Across all years view, click [add chart] and select an indicator of your choice. You may add up to six indicators. Click on a state in the U.S. map to add a state to the graphs. To remove a state, click on the state in the map. Click on a chart to see an enlarged view.
