The United States has traditionally maintained a large surplus in international trade of intellectual property. Trade in
intellectual property includes the licensing and franchising of proprietary technologies, trademarks, and entertainment products. These transactions generate net revenues for U.S. firms in the form of royalties and licensing fees.
