Revisions have been made to a few cells in the following tables.

1. Tables C-16, 27, 38, 49, 83, 83a, 83b, and 85 (138K) on performers of research and development (R&D) to correct the classification of one Federally funded research and development center (FFRDC). Previously Brookhaven National Laboratory was incorrectly identified as an academic FFRDC rather than as a nonprofit FFRDC. In addition to the entries for Brookhaven National Laboratory and the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the effects of the revision are limited to the U.S. and New York State totals for the two types of FFRDCs (but not the overall FFRDC total). FFRDC revisions amount to $27 thousand. This amount is equivalent to less than .01 percent of Brookhaven's $217 million R&D Federal total.



2. Tables C-82, 83, 83a, 83b, 84, 84a, 84b, 85, and 110a (127K) on distributions to States of R&D Federal support to correct the apportionment of National Science Foundation (NSF) research dollars for universities and colleges in the States of Alabama and Virginia. The overall NSF total dollars are unchanged, but total Federal support, as well as NSF support, for the two States has been corrected. University R&D revisions amount to $11 million. This amount is equivalent to less than 5 percent of Alabama's $225 million revised university R&D Federal total and of Virginia's $244 million revised university R&D Federal total. Total Federal R&D to all universities was $13.366 billion in FY 1998 and NSF total R&D support to universities was $1.875 billion.
