The gap in male and female degree earners in psychology widened in recent years.
- The male share of bachelor's and master's degrees in psychology dropped between 1985 and 2004 from 32 to 22 percent and from 36 to 22 percent, respectively.
- The number of bachelor's degrees awarded in psychology increased every year for women over this time period, whereas the number of bachelor's degrees awarded to men increased more slowly through 1996, dropped through 2001, and increased gradually through 2004.
