Blacks and Hispanics are a larger percentage of young people in the United States than they are of older age groups.

  • Blacks and Hispanics were 12% and 15%, respectively, of the U.S. population in 2006.
  • They were 15% and 19%, respectively of the school age population (5–17 years) and 14% and 18%, respectively, of the college age population (18–24 years).
  • Asians were roughly 4% of the population among all age groups.
