Persons with disabilities are a higher percentage of the older U.S. population than of younger age groups.

  • Eighteen percent of the U.S. population ages 5 years and older have some disability.
  • Forty-one percent of those ages 65 years and older have disabilities, compared with 6% of those ages 5–15, 7% of those ages 16–20, and 13% of the working age (21–64) population.
