Senate Appropriations Committee Marks Up FY 2014 Appropriations Bill

The Senate Appropriations Committee today approved the Commerce, Justice, Science and related agencies (CJS) FY ’14 Appropriations bill. The legislation provides NSF with $7.426 billion, an increase of $542 million (or 7.3%) over the FY '13 current funding level of $6.884 billion, and is $200 million (2.7%) below the FY '14 request.
The Research and Related Activities (R&RA) account receives $6.018 billion, $475 million (7.9%) above the current funding level, and $194 million (3.2%) below the request. The Education and Human Resources (EHR) account is given $880.3 million in the bill, an increase of $47.3 million (5.4%) over the current funding level, and equal to the request. The Major Research Equipment and Facilities Construction (MREFC) account is funded at $210 million, $14 million (6.6%) over the current funding level, and equal to the request. The account level for the Agency Operations and Award Management (AOAM) is $298.4 million, $4.8 million (1.6%) over the current funding level, but is $6 million (2%) below the request. The National Science Board (NSB), and the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) are funded at the requested level, which represents increases for each of roughly 7.8% over the current funding level.
