Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey (FEVS) Results

FEVS 2017 Logo The National Science Foundation (NSF) is pleased to present results from the 2017 Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey (FEVS). The 2017 FEVS results indicate that the foundation's efforts to improve the workplace continue to produce positive results. NSF is building upon year-over-year progress in employee engagement, employee satisfaction, and diversity and inclusion. As NSF moves through the remainder of 2017 and into 2018 at our new location in Alexandria, we will continue to make progress in all areas as we renew efforts to address our challenges.

Highlights from NSF's 2017 FEVS results include:

  • NSF's scores on OPM's indices of Employee Engagement (75), Global Satisfaction (74), and Inclusion (68) all increased since 2016 and are well above the government-wide averages.
  • Satisfaction levels increased by three or more percentage points on 52% of the 71 core FEVS items.
  • NSF now ranks fourth among mid-size agencies on both the Employee Engagement index and Global Satisfaction indices, and ranks fifth on the New IQ index.

In 2017, NSF again had a high response rate to the FEVS at 76%. NSF's leadership appreciates employee participation in the survey and will continue to use their feedback to drive meaningful change at the Foundation. The 2017 FEVS for NSF was a census survey conducted from May 9 to June 20. The FEVS was administered to 1,192 eligible staff and of the 1,192 surveys administered, 910 were completed for a response rate of 76%.
