For conducting advanced studies in new nanoscale, diluted semiconductor materials employing synthetic methods that may reveal new knowledge of how these materials are applied to new devices in high-performance opto-electronics and quantum computers, among others. He is introducing new materials science courses and requirements for graduate students while sharing knowledge in undergraduate and graduate institutions in the Pacific northwest through a "materials interest consortium."
