The NeTS program seeks to support innovative and transformative research in all core areas of networking, which will lead to new and revolutionary insights into the development of novel networking architectures, paradigms, algorithms, protocols and technologies. It is expected that by making bold assumptions about the future, NeTS funded research will lead to breakthroughs and achieve solutions that are far-reaching and durable.

NeTS topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Architectures and protocols for evolvable, reliable and easily manageable large-scale, heterogeneous networks,

  • Addressing schemes to support broader semantics for topological location, names, attributes and coordinates,

  • Frameworks and approaches to support mobility and enable highly flexible, multi-modal, routing technologies and protocols,

  • Cross-layer approaches, mechanisms and protocols for adaptive, survivable and resilient networks operating in extreme and challenging environments,

  • Paradigms and abstractions for seamless interoperability and to enable cross component-optimization

  • Frameworks and methodologies for efficient resource management and congestion control in heterogeneous large-scale network environments

  • Scalable cross-layer protocol design methodologies focused on cooperative communications, network coding, routing, and media access, and on the interactions between protocol layers,

  • Frameworks, methodologies and tools for adaptive and efficient resource management and control in wireless and resource constrained environments,

  • Novel architectures and protocols, for robust, scalable and cost effective optical access networks,

  • New frameworks and visionary design principles that exploit advances in underlying enabling technologies, such as wireless and optical, to enable new applications and network services,

  • Scalable mechanisms, methodologies and tools for empirical measurements and traffic characterization of large-scale, heterogeneous networks,

  • Novel advances in network operations and management, including innovative paradigms, methods, protocols and tools to enable self-managing networks and scalable administration and coordination of network operations,
