Science by, of and for the people

scientist holding a bat

A citizen scientist identities a species of captured bat. One of the Trust's citizen science projects compares bat density in an urban area (a shopping mall) with bat density in a natural protected area (a cave). Assessing the impact of habitat fragmentation on bat populations will help researchers better understand the health of the overall ecosystem.

Bird census

Citizen scientist survey for birds during a bird census. The "Birds and Forests" citizen science project includes workshops on how to identify different species of birds and vegetation. The goal is to explore the relationship between bird and plant communities, and how these might change over time (especially due to potential human impacts).
