New Staff Updates and Internal Organization

October 17, 2016

The Division of AGS, has recruited some great new staff in the last six months. We would like to take a moment to update and familiarize you with the new additions to our team.

Ming Cai (Program Director, Climate & Large-Scale Dynamics, Physical & Dynamic Meteorology) Ming comes to us as a rotator from Florida State University and has been conducting research over a broad spectrum of topics related to tropospheric and stratospheric dynamics, circulation variability, and prediction. mcai@nsf.gov

Ruth Lieberman
(Program Director, Aeronomy) Ruth comes to NSF as a visiting Scientist from GATS, Inc, where she is a Senior Research Scientist specializing in the analysis of satellite and ground-based remote sensing data.  Ruth has also served as a member of a NASA Heliophysics Roadmap Committee and editor for JGR-Atmospheres. rlieberm@nsf.gov

Manvendra Dubey (Program Director, Atmospheric Chemistry)
“Dubey” comes to us as a rotator from Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) where as a senior scientist he has done research for 2 decades on integrating field observations, laboratory measurements, and simulations to inform climate-biogeochemistry-carbon models. He has also served as an editor for EGU’s Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics and AGU’s Geophysical Research Letters, was a Fulbright-Nehru scholar at IISc Bengaluru, India in 2013, was awarded LANL Fellow’s research prize in 2016 and has mentored numerous students, postdocs, and junior staff and has participated in over 17 atmospheric field programs. mdubey@nsf.gov

Shree Mishra
(Program Director, NCAR & Facilities Section) Dr. Shree Mishra comes to us from DOE Solar Energy Technologies Office (SunShot Initiative) where she was actively engaged in scientific program management as a AAAS S&T Policy fellow. Dr. Mishra has worked on a broad array of scientific topics at the National Severe Storms Laboratory and the Desert Research Institute. Her expertise is in cloud microphysics, in-situ aircraft measurements and atmospheric remote sensing. sumishra@nsf.gov

Carrie Black
(Associate Program Director, Solar-Terrestrial Research) Dr. Black comes to us from numerous years of research at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, The Catholic University of America, and NASA. She received both the NSF AGS Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship and the NASA Postdoctoral Fellowship for her work in computational solar and plasma physics. Her expertise is in space weather and the role that kinetic magnetic reconnection plays in solar eruptions. She works primarily with the Solar-Terrestrial Research program, but supports all of the Geospace Science programs. cblack@nsf.gov

Helena Fountain
(Program Specialist, Admin.) While not new to NSF, Helena has recently joined AGS as a program specialist. Helena will serve as our go-to for all administration help, and our “front office” lead. hfountai@nsf.gov
