Description of Communications Facilities

McMurdo Station
No significant changes are noted.

South Pole Station

  1. A Naval Order Wire System (NOWS) RTTY link was installed from South Pole to McMurdo Station.
  2. An Intranet Web site was installed at South Pole Station.
  3. MBONE high quality Video Teleconferencing capabilities were installed and tested
  4. The TDRRS Satellite Relay System was installed during the austral summer season.
  5. Vocal Tech Voice over IP Internet Phone was installed during the austral summer
  6. TPC Internet Fax capabilites were installed during the austral summer.

Palmer Station

  1. INMARSAT "B" was installed during the summer season.
  2. CU-CEE-ME Video teleconferencing was installed and tested successfully during the summer season.
