Section VIII of Modifications of Activities Planned for 1998-99 details additions and deletions to the number and type transportation facilities, and changes to proposed projects that affect communications equipment used within the Antarctic treaty area.

Description of Communications Facilities

McMurdo Station

Two projects scheduled for the reporting period were not completed as scheduled. These were the installation of the Base radio at T-site and the installation of a 24/12 composite fiber optic cable for MGS-AH at the Crary lab.

South Pole Station

In addition to scheduled work, the GOES-3 satellite system was upgraded during he Austral summer season.

The Naval Order Wire System (NOWS) RTTY link was not installed as planned.

Palmer Station

In addition to scheduled work, the Motorola MICOL system was replaced with a Motorola Specrta system for ATS-3 operations
