8 September – 20 December 1999:  Lay-up period in Christchurch, New Zealand. A charter-required propulsion systems test and a UNOLS Inspection occurred during this time along with several maintenance and repair projects.

In addition, mooring recovery operations were conducted near Palmer Station and Victor Hugo Island as part of an ongoing microbiology and carbon flux study (BO-046-O).
