Online access to mental health therapy – TAO Connect

TAO Connect, a small business funded by the National Science Foundation, provides online mental health therapy.

The company uses artificial intelligence to create low-cost, accessible, software-based practice tools for treatment for anxiety, depression, substance abuse, resiliency and pain management.

TAO develops a personalized course for each patient’s specific mental health needs – whether they have a therapist or not. They use a method called “low intensity-high engagement therapy,” which combines online and mobile educational modules and practice tools with short phone conversations or video conferences with a therapist. Mental health professionals can also use the company’s dashboard to check on their patients’ progress. People pay a monthly or annual licensing fee to use TAO’s services, which are secure and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliant.

TAO Connect is supported by America’s Seed Fund powered by the National Science Foundation, a nearly $200 million program that awards research and development grants to small businesses and startups, transforming scientific discovery into products and services with commercial and societal impact.
