Cells that transport water and nutrients are lit up in ear of corn
Thousands of genes are needed for baby corn to develop properly. Researchers mapped gene expression (genes turning on and off) in a tiny developing ear of corn. In this image, a ZmSHR1-like gene (red) lights up cells that transport water and nutrients in a slice of a 5 millimeter-long ear of corn.
