Iridescent orchid bee of the family Apidae/subfamily Euglossinae

An orchid bee specimen from Costa Rica with iridescent body, belonging to the family Apidae and subfamily Euglossinae. The specimen was collected as part of an NSF-supported large-scale study on the evolutionary history of Hymenoptera -- the order of insects containing ants, bees and wasps.
