Integrated Municipal Sanitation Systems

Professor Garrick Louis of the University of Virginia and two of his students receive a briefing on the flow monitoring process at a water treatment plant on the southern Caribbean island of Tobago.

Louis applies a systems engineering approach to management of integrated municipal sanitation systems (including drinking water, wastewater and sewage treatment, and solid waste disposal) to build local capacity to sustain safe, reliable, affordable services to underserved communities worldwide. His research features development of methods for capacity assessment, performance evaluation and strategic resource allocation.
