Multinet and Rosette

Equipment used to sample the water column and provide depth-stratified samples of phytoplankton, zooplankton and ichthyoplankton, as well as information on temperature, salinity, density, dissolved oxygen and photosynthetic available radiation (PAR).

The equipment was purchased with funding from a National Science Foundation Major Research Instrumentation/Research in Undergraduate Institution grant (OCE 03-21319), awarded to The University of Alaska Southeast (UAS), with Ginny Eckert as principal investigator. The equipment is being used here to sample the water column in the vicinity of tidewater glaciers in Glacier Bay, Alaska, in an investigation of the potential for tidewater glaciers to enhance productivity. The equipment is assembled into two units--a multinet and a rosette. The multinet is an automated plankton collector that can collect discrete samples at different water depths. The rosette includes a suite of sensors and bottles to collect water samples. (Date of Image: July 2004)
