Brain-machine interfaces such as the Argus II retinal prosthesis can help restore lost function.

Developed in part with support from the National Science Foundation, the Argus II Retinal Prosthesis System works by bypassing damaged cells in the retina, transmitting images from a small camera to an implant in the back of the eye that sends electrical signals to the brain.
